Mac MaKenny grew up in the ranching and outfitting business in Jasper Alberta starting in 1946 when his father was discharged from the US Navy. He joined the US Army and served 2 years with the 3rd division in Germany Graduated from Cornell University (BS degree) 1961. Mac worked for General Foods or Bruswick Corp in Syracuse, Cleveland, Boston, Denver, Chicago, New York, Tulsa and Toronto. He started The Homeplace Ranch in 1974 and continue to happily run it. Past and present board and council responsibilities include; Past President of Dude Ranchers Association, Past director of Tourism Calgary, Past director of Alberta Resturant Association, Past Executive Director and VP of Alberta Outfitters Assoc. and Past Chairman of Calgary Tourism Region.

Russell True
White Stallion Ranch – Tucson Arizona

Russell True has lived and breathed ranching since the age of five. Along with his brother Michael, Russell is the owner and operator of the White Stallion Ranch, a dude ranch that welcomes guests from around the world. Russell is familiar with all aspects of ranch operations and is well versed in the history of ranching and rodeo. He is a past president of the Dude Ranchers’ Association and is a member of the Board with the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Ken Neal

Ken Neal has held his real estate license since 1972, working as an independent broker prior to joining Live Water Properties in 2008. Majoring in Wildlife Biology at the University of Wyoming, Ken used this knowledge in his career as he managed, operated and owned multiple properties including dude ranches, cattle ranches and outfitters. Ken has been a member of the National Dude Ranchers Associations since 1970 and has acted as President and Chairman of the Educational Trust in addition to serving on their National Board of Directors. A third generation Wyomingite, he enjoys pack trips, traveling and exploring western ranches. Dan Schneider

Dan Schneider has been President/CEO of Leavitt Recreation & Hospitality Insurance (formerly The Schneider Group). in Tucson, Arizona and Sturgis, South Dakota, since 1982. He has also been very active in developing many industry programs. He has worked with many dude ranches in their risk management, property/casualty insurance solutions and the creation and administration of waivers/assumption of risk forms. Another specialization is an insurance program for medical device product liability insurance. He has extensive experience in insurance production management and marketing management. He has attended several insurance company schools including Fireman’s Fund, Hartford and Federated as well as continuing education classes in Agency Management, Sales Management and Commercial Property & Casualty Insurance. Dan also played professional baseball from 1962 to 1971. He started with the Milwaukee Braves. He played with the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals. He has been Chairman of the Arizona Baseball Commission, President of the Southern Arizona Sports Development, League President, Little League Baseball and Tucson Commissioner, Big League Baseball.

Sue Murphy
Elk Mountain Ranch – Buena Vista, Colorado

Sue Murphy and her husband are owners and hosts at Elk Mountain Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado. Tom and Sue met in 1986 as staff members at Elk Mountain. This relationship blossomed to marriage and eventually led to their purchase of the ranch. This year will be their 23rd year of dude ranching. They have two children – a 17 year old daughter, Hunter and a 14 year old son, Tyler. The Murphy family is thankful to be able to spend their lives doing something that we truly love, and thankful that they can share their little piece of heaven with so many wonderful folks from around the world. Sue is also a Certified Public Accountant with a small firm in Buena Vista.

Nigel Selby

Nigel Selby has worked in the British Travel Business for 30 years. He joined a small UK company called Caravan Abroad in 1979 and spent the next 22 years specializing in RV holiday rentals worldwide. The majority of customers travelled to North America and he and his family took many touring holidays across the States and Canada. The opportunity to acquire a Tour Operation that sold ranching holidays came about eight years ago and he and his wife Christine have visited almost all of the 70 ranches their company represents in that time. These vary from genuine Working cattle and horse operations through to Guest, Dude and Resort Ranches which enables them to fit the customer to the ranch. American Round-Up recently joined forces with a Canadian ski specialist to compliment their summer operation with Frontier Travel’s winter one. Nigel is honoured to be asked to join the Advisory Board and to assist the other members in their relaunch of DudeRanches.com
